When we speak of the "temples," we are referring to the vertical front wall of the hair that is above and to the front of the ears, usually featuring some degree of "temporal point" on each side. Many of the men we transplant who suffer from male pattern baldness also have an erosion and thinning of this front temple hair. Obtaining a natural final result is only partially met by filling in the top of the head, as there isn't any hair "holding up" the frontal projection of hair on top. In recent years, we have become quite artistic in re-creating these temple areas with the dense-packing of tiny lateral slit grafts. Approximately half of our patients over 35 years of age have the temples also filled in. Examples of this surgery are seen on this page and in our temple photo gallery. It generally takes around 300-500 extra FU grafts to include the temples in the overall hair transplant plan for a single session.
